Dance Physiotherapy & Pre-Pointe Assessments
Thrive Physio Plus offers expert dance physiotherapy to support dancers through every stage of training and performance.
Our pre-pointe assessments help determine whether you’re physically ready to progress safely to pointe work, reducing injury risk and building the strength and control required for peak performance.
What Is a Pre-Pointe Assessment?
A pre-pointe assessment is essential for dancers aspiring to begin pointe work. It evaluates your readiness by testing key areas like strength, control, mobility, and alignment.
This ensures a safe and smooth transition to pointe training while reducing the risk of common dance injuries, such as Achilles tendinitis, repetitive strain, or lower back strain.
During the assessment, our expert physiotherapists conduct a detailed evaluation of your feet, ankles, hips, and core, as well as a Pointe shoe review.
We identify any imbalances, weaknesses, or postural troubles that could impact your performance or increase injury risk.
Based on the findings, we create a personalised exercise program to help you build the strength and control needed for pointe work.

Who It’s For
A Dance Physiotherapy session or Pre-pointe assessment is ideal for:
- Ballet dancers aged 12 and over preparing for pointe work
- Dancers of all ages returning from injury
- Dance injury management
- Advanced or recreational dancers (of all ages) seeking technique and performance optimisation
- Dance teachers seeking evidence-based support for their students’ progression
Q: How old should my child be for a pre-pointe assessment?
A: Most dancers complete an assessment depending on physical maturity and training hours. The general guide is that children aged 12 and over are suitable for a pre-pointe assessment.
Q: Do I need a referral?
A: No referral is needed – you can book directly with us online.
Q: Can boys or contemporary dancers book an assessment?
A: Absolutely. Strength, control, and mobility assessments benefit all dance styles.
What to Expect in your session
Each Pre-Pointe or Dance Physio initial session is 60 minutes in duration, and includes:
| Step | Description |
